Summer Friends Special Needs Camp

Summer Friends Special Needs Camp is a day camp experience planned especially for children ages 5- 21 with special needs and is sponsored by The Arc of Platte County.  Campers are paired with a "pal" for support during this one week camp held only in the mornings. During the week the children experience singing, dancing, crafts, games, buggy rides and just plain FUN!! We end the week with a special Family Night/Talent Show on the last day. A nurse is available on site each day of camp.

Program Goals:

  • Provide a summer camp experience for children with developmental disabilities

  • Give each camper a chance to showcase their talents and abilities

  • Give each camper the one on one support they need by recruiting junior high, high school and adult volunteers to help them succeed

  • Provide opportunities for children with disabilities to enjoy social and recreational experiences with friends

  • Involve the community by bringing in many community helpers to enrich the camp experience (FFA petting zoo, clowns, horses, librarian, ambulance, etc.)

If you are interested in signing your child up for this program or if you would like to volunteer to be a "pal" please contact The ARC of Platte County.
